I was in naad for 3 weeks in feb/march 07, and two days were lost due to hartal calls by opposing political parties. Its crimnal to hold the general public to ransom and cripple the day to day lives of the general populance.Whats the frickin point of boasting a 100% literate state!!I found this site after trying to register a website called hartal/bandh.com. Good job.Unless the unemployed youth dont actively participate, harthals will kill kerala.

  Dear webmaster ,

Congrats for your initiative

People of kerala have short memory ,they forget things fast

Can you please make a list of hartals/bandh's from 1947 & let us this be a reference for the generations to come & let us analyse the usefulness of these hartals ,anything good happened due to these hartals ,& if you can make malayalam version of this we can make this site more popular

god bless

Josey

My heartful appreciation for this initiative. It gives me a feeling that there are people who are concerned and willing to spent time for correcting this social menace called harthat.I am heading a small industry located in Thrissur in an area earmarked for industries. We are fighting against all harthals to save production. But amoung big and small factories numbering about 50,in this industrial area, ours is the only unit trying to work on harthals. In the last BJP sponsored harthal, they barged into my factory and forced us to close.I was personally threatened to be eliminated if I repeat such mistakes in future.I dont care for all these threats, but holding together my staff and workers is getting more and more difficult, as they are getting scared. We have legal remedies, but legal cource is not effective against a group of persons who are charged up emotionally and misguided by their leaders.I suggest that this initiative be converted to a society with memberships,so that people resisting harthals are supported by all.We have to take this initiative forward,as I am sure that harthal is the biggest problem Kerala is facing now.Keral needs to generate some wealth if it dreams of standing on its feet sans the money order economy. The investment climate is OK in Kerala now.We have an opportunity to work and contribute to our state. But now Harthals have started and prolocated to village hathals, junction harthals etc.A few days back I went to Kunnamkulam for a business purpose only to learn that there is a three hour evening harthal because some old leader passed away during the natural cource of his assaignment in earth. Now the question, why so many harthals. The simple reason is that now a days there are not many people around who are willing hit the road for a peaceful procession/strike/demonstrationetc for a bad or good reason. So the leadrs give a harthal call, relax at home, and tells his junior to ensure successful harthal somehow. The gangs coming out view any one working or moving as a hinderence to his assaignment.I have experience of a gang of 5 or 6 coming on two wheelers to my factory demanding closure for enforcing VAHANABANDH.I sincerely wish that this initiative against harthals will bear fruit soon for the benefit of all Keralites. My best wishes and all support.

We should not be bothered about the day called as 'Harthal'. Just come out and spend the day as usual. With the support of police and public support, no one would dare to put our land to halt.

I appreciate people who has put there effort to build this website.

In related to that I would like to addresses a incident which was happen in my eye site. In 1998, on a Harthal day all roads where blocked and there is no way to attend any emergency services. Same time my friends father got stroke, while taking to hospital the entire rods are block. He lost his life due to lack of emergency attention.

I always remember that black day whenever Harthal come in Kerala. “Think about same situation when happening to the family who is supporting to the Harthal”

What I think, if the people withdraws their support by continuing the daily routine could make drastic change to the so called 'harthal'. A trend is being developed, when a hartal is announced and people take it as another holiday and stay at home. This should not be encouraged.
When considering the sabotages and loss of productivity which is hard to recover, the time has come for an 'anti-harthal' movement.

it is the most dangerous and cruel act of protest.Whaterver should be the reason also, it wont suit for well educated , mannered, people of god's own country..
Ofcourse, everyone has the right to protest, but we can choose positive methods to do that, and it shouldn't affect the harmony of fellowbeings life..
There should be laws necessary to get compensation from those who are calling for such stupid events. In my opinion it is the best way to reduce hartals in Kerala..
